Funtington Music Group

Charitable Status and Bursaries

The award of Charitable Status at the end of 2004 has been a bonus, and meant that there has been more money available through the Gift Aid Scheme to fulfil the original objective of the Funtington Music Group.

As a result the Robert Headley Fund, which was set up in memory of the founder of the FMG to help students who are preparing for the start of their musical careers, has been able to be far more generous in its grants to students where family incomes are not able to sustain full costs..

In 2005 a first award of £1000 was made to Rachel Staley, a University of Chichester graduate, who obtained a place at Birmingham Conservatoire. This was followed in 2006 by a grant of £500 to local cellist, Ella Rundle, to help her purchase an instrument worthy of her developing talent. Ella started at the London Guildhall School of Music in September.

In 2007 a grant of £2000 was awarded to Gerri Rawlings to help finance her Performance Diploma Course at the Royal Northern School of Music

Additionally the Fund has awarded prizes for adjudicated performances at University of Chichester Student Showcase Concerts. In 2005, 2006 and 2007 these prizes totaled £1000.00 in each year.
